The Respect Yourself Program

The Respect Yourself program teaches abuse prevention through relationship, sexuality and body education to people with developmental disabilities. We offer two series to adults with developmental disabilities so they can develop their own real relationships in their lives.

• Me and You is a 4 week series on healthy relationships, beginning with yourself. Class participants will learn about different relationships we may have in our lives, what is private, how to set boundaries, and what abuse actually looks like.

• Respect Yourself is a 7 week series on sexuality and the body. Class participants will learn things that will help protect them from sexual abuse. Abuse prevention HAS to begin with education on sexuality and the body, as well as the belief that every person with a developmental disability has the right to real relationships.

Both series are taught by experienced Instructors that have developmental disabilities themselves. We Care A Lot Foundation believes that Peer Instruction is the most organic and effective form of instruction for people with developmental disabilities. Our programs are often the first time people are able to see a peer as someone of value, experience and knowledge.

The Respect Yourself program believes that everyone has a right to be free from abuse. Taking both of these classes can help keep people with developmental disabilities free from abuse. To learn more about our program, please visit https://WeCareALot.org/respect.
